Target

Serum Amyloid P component (SAP) is a Ca2+ activated serum protein, which structurally resembles legume lectins. It has an unknown function but binds negatively charged carbohydrates and is associated with all types of amyloid lesions including the amyloid plaques found in brains of Alzheimer patients.The native protein is a pentamer or a decamer (125 kDa or 250 kDa). In SDS-PAGE the protein dissociates into its 25 kDa subunits irrespectively of reduction or not.
